Mapping S’More of our Shores
December 3, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us for a PARTY ON THE PORT PIER as we spark conversation about our Florida coastline by hosting a happy hour with bonfires on the breakwall, marine scientists, steel drums and s’mores!
GPS maps guide us along streets. Google Earth has mapped every visible square foot of land around the globe. So why are we still using nautical maps from the 19th century to navigate our ever changing oceans and coastlines?
St. Pete’s Marine Science community is leading the way with a pioneering new research study called: “The Florida Coastal Mapping Program.”
Their work will impact red tide, flood level projections, beach re-nourishment, fishing habitat, placement of future energy projects along our shores, the health of our planet…and more.
A clear roadmap of today’s underwater terrain is vital.
Come learn why.
(And celebrate with the international marine science rock-stars who might just be your neighbors.)
Free & Open to the Public – please RSVP here on Eventbrite.
Schedule:
5:30 – 6:15 pm — Share the Sunset with some Marine Scientists
(Free drink included)
6:15 – 7:00 pm — OPEN Speaker Presentation + Q&A
Topic: Florida Coastal Mapping – Why we need it and don’t know it.
7:00 – 8:30 pm — The Pier Party continues with S’more Music, Beverages & Bonfires
