Critical Thinking Discussion Group
April 1, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
While this group is new and while we are in the midst of a pandemic we will start with online meetups. Once RSVP’d the link to the Zoom video conference call will be made available.
In large part due to social media we find ourselves in ideological echo chambers, only interacting with those that share our same viewpoints. Because of this we often wonder how someone can believe something so obviously wrong, because our viewpoint is so obviously right. This group provides a necessary space to have a dialogue with others who hold differing beliefs other than your own.
The three main goals of this group will be the following. To determine what critical thinking even means. The practice of critical thinking itself utilizing research, casual conversation, and the Socratic method. And lastly, to discuss how we should advocate for and implement critical thinking skills in society.
This group requires people of all ideological backgrounds, conservatives, liberals, theists, atheists, determinists, compatabalists, etc, in order to succeed in fulfilling its goals. We will be discussing topics involving politics, philosophy, science, and religion. These conversations will be tough and some of us will need practice in talking to people we disagree with, however it is absolutely necessary that you respect everyone in this group. You don’t need to respect the belief but you do need to respect the person.
