Conversation with Xavier Cortada
July 19, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Conversations in Art+Innovations is an interactive lecture series for the creative community. Join us for the next installment of Conversations in Art + Innovation as artist Xavier Cortada returns to speak about his new solo exhibition, his socially engaging practice, important issues surrounding climate change and more.
Cortada has spent his career creating art installations and projects that highlight various social issues, our environment and the impact of global warming. A 2007 National Science Foundation Antarctic Artist and Writer’s Program Fellow, Cortada used the moving ice sheet beneath the South Pole as an instrument to mark time; the art piece will be completed in 150,000 years.
The Miami-based artist has worked with groups worldwide to produce numerous collaborative art projects, including peace murals in Cyprus and Northern Ireland, child welfare projects in Bolivia and Panama, AIDS murals in Switzerland and South Africa, juvenile justice projects in Miami and Philadelphia, and eco-art projects in Taiwan, Hawaii, Holland and Latvia.
The work of Xavier Cortada is currently the focus of the new exhibition “Xavier Cortada | North Pole Installations and Florida Is…” on display at the Gallery at Creative Pinellas through September 2. Learn more about the exhibition here.
