Skin Kandii Making History: Ceremonial ribbon-cutting

St. Petersburg, Fla. (October 20, 2017) – The run-away hit brand Skin Kandii will be available on shelves this month in The St Pete Store & Visitors Center, a retail showcase sponsored through a partnership between the City of St. Petersburg and the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
A ceremonial ribbon-cutting will take place October 26, 2017 at 5 p.m. on site at The St Pete Store, 100 Second Avenue North, Suite 150, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
Renee Edwards, CEO of the two-year old company Skin Kandii, LLC, says “This is a full-circle moment for me. The Chamber and City teams have been instrumental in elevating minority-owned firms like mine. I’m proud to be part of the first graduating class of their Community Business Development Initiative.”
Mayor Rick Kriseman said: “Today, we celebrate another outstanding partnership between an entrepreneur and the City of St. Petersburg. I applaud Renee Edwards for her hard work and diligence, and her classmates in the first graduating class of the Community Business Development Initiative. My thanks to Renee for helping the sun shine on the St. Petersburg business community.”
Skin Kandii will be the first African American-manufactured product line sold in The St Pete Store. Edwards, along with several other African American entrepreneurs, completed a three-month business training series as part of the Community Business Development Initiative (CBDI) over the past year.
The CBDI was funded by the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg and implemented as a partnership by the St. Petersburg Area Chamber, the City of St. Petersburg, the 2020 Plan team and others. Edwards also took part in a companion initiative supported by the same partners – the CATCH program led by the Tampa Bay Black Business Investment Corporation (BBIC).
Albert Lee, President and CEO of the BBIC, says “Renee Edwards is diligent, persistent, enthusiastic and intentional in the pursuit of making Skin Kandii, a brand that will compete in the marketplace. It was our pleasure to have her as one of our first participants in our CATCH Program.”
